A sapphire ring for a 45th anniversary
The ask
Our forty-fifth is next September. Sapphire is the stone for forty-five, and she has always worn blue. She dislikes anything showy and wears my mother's thin gold band every day. I'd like one serious stone, set simply. I'll spend what the right stone costs.
The gift
An unheated royal blue sapphire of around seven carats from Sri Lanka, chosen loose from several candidates and certified untreated by an independent gem laboratory. A bench jeweler sets it in a plain gold ring drawn to sit beside her mother-in-law's band. The laboratory report and a written note on the stone's origin come in a fitted case, and the card in the linen box is sealed in wax.
Why it's extraordinary
Sapphire is the stone for a forty-fifth anniversary. Untreated stones of this size and color are uncommon, and this one is set to sit quietly beside the ring she never takes off.
