Eleven Months, Carried

LeatherThe Close

A bridle-leather briefcase to mark a closing

The ask

The acquisition closed on Friday. Our outside counsel carried the same split nylon bag through all eleven months of it. I want to replace it with something he will carry for the next twenty years. No logos anywhere. Around $2k.

The gift

A briefcase in English bridle leather, made to order in an English leather workshop, with the pockets laid out for how he works and solid brass locks. His initials are blind-embossed inside, where only he will see them. It arrives in the linen box with a wax-sealed card.

Why it's extraordinary

He carried the deal in a split nylon bag. Bridle leather darkens and softens with handling, so this one will record the next twenty years the way the old one recorded these eleven months.

The moment

It goes to the office on Monday, and the old bag is retired to a cupboard rather than a bin.

A curator replies within one business day.
