From the Same Sea
A pearl from a Broome farm, for a bride
The ask
My niece is getting married in Perth next spring. She grew up on the coast and swims every morning, whatever the weather. I'd like to send her and her fiancé to Broome for two days beforehand, and give her something from the sea to wear down the aisle. Up to $8k.
The gift
Two days in Broome, with a helicopter flight along the coast to a pearl farm, a boat through the creek where oysters grow, and the hatchery. In Perth that week, she opens one of its oysters at a private harvest and lifts out the pearl herself. A jeweler sets it as a gold pendant, or another Broome pearl if hers grades out of range. The itinerary arrives in the linen box with a wax-sealed card.
Why it's extraordinary
She wears a pearl she lifted from the oyster herself, grown at the farm she flew to that week, in the ocean she has swum in all her life.
The moment
It is worn down the aisle, and the farm is the first place they describe when people ask about it.
A curator replies within one business day.
