A family Bible rebound for a wedding
The ask
My daughter marries in June. Our family Bible has every wedding since 1858 written in the front, and the spine is in pieces. Hers will be the next entry. She is the one in the family who makes things with her hands. Around $3,500.
The gift
A private day at a hand bookbinder's bench. She watches the family Bible taken down to its sewn sections, register pages included, then sews a small blank book of her own in the same structure. The binder resews the Bible and covers it in full goatskin, with the family name tooled in gold on the spine, ready before the wedding and returned in the linen box with a wax-sealed card.
Why it's extraordinary
The register pages already hold every family wedding since 1858. Hers is the first written into a binding she watched being made, beside a book she sewed herself.
The moment
The new entry is written the week of the wedding, in a book that will now outlast the next several.
