PassageThe Wedding

A private Galápagos yacht week for a wedding

The ask

My daughter and her fiancé met on a marine biology field course. Their wedding is next October and both families are close. I'd like to give the two of them, and both families, a week together somewhere wild after the wedding. Sixteen of us. Cost is not the question.

The gift

The whole of a sixteen-berth expedition yacht in the Galápagos Islands for seven nights, with its crew, chef, and a licensed naturalist guide. Days are spent ashore on volcanic islands and in the water, with snorkel gear and kayaks aboard. We choose the itinerary with the operator for its snorkeling sites, and the charter papers come in the linen box, sealed in wax.

Why it's extraordinary

Visitor sites in the islands are set by the national park and every landing is led by a licensed naturalist. The couple met studying marine life, and here they swim beside penguins, sea lions, and marine iguanas found nowhere else.

The moment

Both families spend a week on one boat, with no other passengers, in the first days of the marriage.

A curator replies within one business day.
