A Piedmont truffle hunt for an anniversary
The ask
Our tenth anniversary is in late October. We honeymooned in Piedmont and have talked about going back every year since. I'd like to give my husband a morning in the woods and the truffle to go with dinner. Around $2,500, flights separate.
The gift
A private truffle hunt in the hills outside Alba with a truffle hunter and his dog in the white truffle season, then a visit to the town's truffle market to choose a white truffle of around eighty grams. We arrange for a restaurant in the Langhe to shave it over dinner that night. The plan for the day is written on a card and sealed in wax.
Why it's extraordinary
It takes them back to where they began, in the few weeks of the year when white truffles can be found, eaten the same day they came out of the ground.
The moment
The truffle is shaved at the table that evening, and the jar of rice it traveled in comes home.
